The ABSET Conference is organized by the MSc Program “Biomedical Engineering and Technology” of the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the University of West Attica, Greece.
The Conference aims to bring closer members of diverse disciplines, implementing the evolution of the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, physics, engineering, and technology to alleviate the pressing challenges in healthcare.
Conference themes include, among others:
The program focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of biomedical engineering and aims to prepare students for careers in the healthcare industry, research institutions, and academia. The program is structured to cover a range of topics, including medical imaging, biomedical instrumentation, machine learning, bioinformatics, biomaterials, biomechanics, control systems, biomedical marketing, bioethics, and research methodology.
The program is taught in English and is offered on a full-time basis. It consists of 3 semesters and requires the completion of 90 ECTS credits. During the program, students will be exposed to a range of courses, laboratory work, and research projects.
Admission to the program requires a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or a related field, as well as a good command of the English language.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in 1985 as the Department of Medical Instruments Technology of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece. In 2018 the Department received its current form at the newly founded University of West Attica, Greece. It is the only Higher Education Department in Greece that organizes undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering.
Currently, the department offers the following study programs:
1.BSc (undergraduate studies): Title: “Biomedical Engineering”, 5-year study program with Integrated Master, 300 ECTS, full program in Greek
2.MSc (postgraduate studies): Title: “Advanced Systems and Methods in Biomedical Engineering”, 1.5-year duration (1st and 2nd-semester lectures, 3rd-semester diploma thesis), 90 ECTS, full program in Greek
3.MSc (postgraduate studies): Title: “Biomedical Engineering & Technology”, 1.5-year duration (1st and 2nd-semester lectures, 3rd-semester diploma thesis), 90 ECTS, full program in English
4.Ph.D. (postgraduate studies), 3-6 years duration, full program in Greek and English
The University of West Attica (UniWA) was founded in 2018 from the merging process of the former Technological Educational Institute of Athens and the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus. In 2019, the National School of Public Health joined the newly established university.
The mission of the University of West Attica is to provide education of excellent quality in the fields of study, and scientific breakthroughs with a global reputation communicated to society and promote culture, art, and civilization. UniWA operates with high educational and research standards and strives to respond to the ever-increasing demands of modern society for the creation of executives that have attained a solid scientific and technological background.
