Erasmus Mobility opportunities

Erasmus is a European Union-funded program that offers university students a unique opportunity for international mobility and academic exchange. Through Erasmus, students can:

  1. Study Abroad: Spend a semester or academic year at a partner university in another European country, earning credits that count toward their degree program.
  2. Internship Abroad: Gain valuable professional experience by undertaking internships with organizations, businesses, or research institutions in different European countries.

Erasmus opportunities come with various benefits, including:

  • Financial Support: Erasmus provides financial aid to cover travel and living expenses, making international experiences more accessible for students.
  • Language Development: Students can enhance their language skills, as courses are often offered in the host country’s language.
  • Cultural Enrichment: Living in a foreign country allows students to immerse themselves in new cultures, broaden their horizons, and build lasting international friendships.
  • Academic Enrichment: Exposure to diverse teaching methods and academic perspectives fosters personal and intellectual growth.
  • Enhanced Employability: Erasmus experiences are highly valued by employers, as they demonstrate adaptability, independence, and intercultural competence.

Overall, the Erasmus program not only promotes academic excellence but also contributes to the development of well-rounded, globally minded individuals who are prepared to thrive in an interconnected world.

More info about the Erasmus program may be found at the official Erasmus portal of the University of West Attica.

Frequently Asked Questions - Internship/Practical training

When can I apply for the Erasmus program?
Applications can only be made when the Erasmus office issues an active announcement. Typically, two announcements are made per year. For specific dates, please contact the Erasmus office directly.

Which companies/organizations can I intern with through the Erasmus program?
You can intern with any organization active in the field of biomedical engineering within the European Union, such as companies, research centers, hospitals, universities, etc.

Are there specific companies/organizations I can choose from?
No, there are no predetermined companies/organizations to choose from. Students are responsible for finding their own placements by contacting institutions directly and securing agreements. Occasionally, the Erasmus office may share advertisements for internships abroad, along with databases for potential placements, though these often do not align with biomedical engineering. Further information can be found on the Erasmus office website or by contacting them directly.

What will be the subject of the internship? Can I choose?
The subject of the internship is determined in collaboration with the hosting institution. Students typically do not have the autonomy to choose the subject themselves.

When should I start looking for a potential placement?
It’s advisable to begin the search for a placement before the Erasmus announcement, as finding a suitable placement can be time-consuming and competitive.

How do I search for a potential placement?
You can conduct a general internet search, visit company websites, or send inquiries via email. Internship advertisements by companies often include the term ‘internship’ in their titles, although this is not always the case.

Accommodation arrangements are the responsibility of each student. Some countries offer student residence options, but students must independently explore these possibilities. Contacting the internship provider may yield suggestions or advice regarding accommodation.

Can I pursue my Diploma thesis while participating in the Erasmus program?
If a student meets the requirements for preparing a diploma thesis as outlined by the Department and wishes to work on their thesis abroad concurrently with their Erasmus program participation, they must first find a supervisor from our Department. Together, they will determine all the details of the diploma implementation, including collaboration with the foreign institution. This process applies to all diplomas involving an institution outside the Department, whether external or internal, through research programs, companies, hospitals, etc. However, the subject of the internship cannot be identical to the subject of the thesis, though it may be related.

I’d like more information about the process, supporting documents, etc.
You can find comprehensive details regarding the application process, necessary supporting documents, and any procedural issues on the Erasmus office website or by contacting them directly.

For administrative matters, please contact the Erasmus office, while for academic inquiries, you can reach out to the Head of the Department.
